Papakolea Beach – Green Sand Beach

Mahana Beach and, erroneously, Puu Mahana, is a green sand beach located at South Point, in the Kau district of the Island of Hawaii. One of only two green sand beaches in the world, the other being in Guam, the beach gets distinctive coloring from olivine crystals found in a nearby cinder cone.

Purple sand beach – Pfeiffer Beach

This beach is really worth your time. Besides beautiful offshore views of rocks and sea stacks and some nice surfing waves, this beach has unusual purple sand, from manganese garnet particles washing down the hillside. The further north on the beach you go, the more purple it becomes.

Kaihalulu – Red Sand Beach

is located on the far side of Ka’uiki Hill south of Hana Bay on Maui. The sand gets its red-black color from the crumbling cindercone hill that surrounds the bay.

Punaluu Beach – Black Sand Beach

Punaluu Beach is a beach between Pahala and Naalehu on the Big Island of the U.S. state of Hawaii. The beach has black sand created by lava flowing into the ocean which explodes as it reaches the ocean and cools. This volcanic activity is in the Hawaii Volcanoes National Park.

Glass beach – Fort Bragg is not the place you would go to the vacation, but is beautiful nevertheless. The Fort Bragg city dump once stood here. It closed in the 1960s, but broken glass remained. Over the years it’s been ground and polished.

Pink sand beach

Pink sand beach is located on Harbour Island. The sand is a composition of bits of coral, broken shells, minute rocks and calcium carbonate from tiny marine invertebrates. The pink color comes from tiny microscopic shelled animals known as Foraminifera. This animal has a bright pink or red shell full of holes through which it extends a footing, called “pseudopodia” which it uses to attach itself and feed.

Mauritius – white sand beaches

are located all around the island .  The sand is of pure silikates and carbonates, making it clearly white.
